DIY spirit helps out Yorkshire museum

A museum has been renovated by staff who used DIY skills and tools in order to keep costs down and improve the historic building, according to one newspaper.
The National Railway Museum's head curator, Andrew Morrison, told the Yorkshire Post that the staff learned DIY skills whilst redeveloping the location and enjoyed the process.
"When we started this project, we decided £2.1m was a realistic amount of money to raise. However, when you are completely transforming a museum of this size, that kind of money doesn't go very far," he said.
The curator added that the museum's community archaeologist spent evenings at home in front of the television carving replica wooden corbels for the entrance hall and said everyone at the establishment has helped to pitch in.
Francesca Gamble, DIY expert, said that women are becoming more adventurous around the home and thinks this trend has developed alongside the changes to traditional gender roles in recent years.
