How to use a Wallpaper Stripper
- Preparation is key – ensure you have safety goggles, gloves and a good ladder. Remove or cover furniture in the room, and protect your floors with sheets. This will also make the clean up easier – you don’t want to waste time picking up small strips of wallpaper. Tape plastic bags over electric sockets and switches. If possible, isolate electricity and turn the power off.
- You may also need some work lighting.
- Perforate or score the old wallpaper – this creates holes which allows the steam to penetrate the surface and loosen the adhesive.
- Fill the water tank and wait for the steamer to heat up (approx 10-15 mins). You will need a bucket or something similar to place the steam plate in.
- Press the steam plate against the wallpaper for 10-15 seconds, starting at the bottom of the wall.
- Slowly work your way up the wall. Use a wide scraper to gently peel off the loosened wallpaper, being careful not the damage the wall. Work in small sections for best results. The paper should slide off very easily. This is especially effective for drywalls.
When finished with the Wallpaper Stripper
You will need to clean the walls after removing the wallpaper. No need to scrub – just sponge it down with a mixture of washing up liquid and warm water before rubbing down with a towel. You should now have a smooth dry wall ready for either painting or wallpapering!
