How does the pricing work?
Note: All prices listed are Ex VAT.
- ONE DAY
- This is the rate for the first 24 hours.
- ADD DAYS
- Additional 24 hour periods after the first day or week.
- WEEKEND (3 for 2 Weekend Hire Offer)
- Reduced weekend rate - Pick up Midday Friday, return by Midday Monday - We will only charge two days hire.*
- WEEKLY
- The Maximum rate for each 7 day period.
*Charge periods may differ for equipment supplied by an agent. '3 for 2 Weekend Hire' does not apply to OneCall products.
When should I make my reservation?
Please book as early as possible, especially for the busy summer and bank holiday periods. You may reserve by telephone or by using the online reservation facility on this website.
Is there a charge for delivery/collection?
Rates for delivery and collection vary with distance and will be quoted when you place your reservation. Deliveries are normally made Monday am to Saturday midday. Transport planning is based on a delivery projection within a two-hour time window.
There is a minimum charge of £16.50 each way (+VAT) for delivering to / collection from an address within 10 miles from the nearest HSS branch, then £1.65 per mile thereafter. Within the M25 motorway the minimum charge is £19.50 each way (+VAT) for the first 10 miles and then £1.95 per mile thereafter.
For large and towed equipment, additional charges may apply and will be quoted prior to confirmation of your contract.
Fastrack Off-Hire & Collection?
Finished with the kit you've hired from HSS? Just call 0845 OFF HIRE (0845 633 4473). Simply quote your contract number - we'll cease the hire and give you a confirmation reference number.
Equipment will be collected at the earliest opportunity convenient for you, usually the next working day- another time saving idea from HSS Hire!
Do I need identification?
We may request two forms of identity at the time of hire. A bank or credit card together with a driving licence showing your current address are ideal. If in doubt please check with your local branch.
How and when do I pay?
- Credit Card
- All major credit cards are accepted. In most cases this means that your hire is completed before your card statement is due. For long-term hires, charges are made at 2-week intervals.
- Cash or Debit Card
- Customers who prefer to pay in advance will be asked for a deposit of around twice the weekly hire rate. On return of equipment we deduct the hire charge and refund your balance.
- TradePro Card
- HSS is the only national hire company to accept TradePro - the new credit for the professional tradesman. Application forms available at any HSS branch or visit www.tradeprocard.co.uk
- HSS Trade Card

For regular trade hirers who do not require a monthly credit account the HSS TradeCard offers savings on all Cash and Credit Card hires subject to payment on return. Benefits include:

- If you wish to hire on a regular basis with up to 30 days credit please complete the Form online or call into your local branch.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Deposits are required for all equipment hire. We may ask for a 2-week deposit which will be refunded upon return of equipment.
What is my responsibility for equipment return?
Equipment remains on hire until returned to any HSS branch. If you require a collection, please telephone and ensure you obtain an 'off-Hire' number. Security of equipment remains your responsibility until returned or collected by us.
What happens if something is broken, damaged or missing?
We do charge for broken or damaged equipment. Be sure equipment is secured when not in use and protected from vandalism or loss.
- Damage Waiver
- To avoid the risk of unforeseen charges, our Damage Waiver option, 10% of the hire rate, indemnifies you against the cost of accidental damage to equipment you have hired. Different limitations apply to HSS OneCall products.
- Damage Waiver Plus
- A more comprehensive level of indemnity if equipment is stolen whilst on hire. This Damage Waiver Plus option at 15% of the hire rate not only covers you for the cost of repairing accidental damage to HSS hired equipment but also covers you for loss by theft. Supplementary conditions and limits of claim apply. Full details with hire and available on request.
Why am I unable to access your site from work?
You may be attempting to access the Internet from within a firewall. Your employer may restrict your access to the Internet, and only allow specific types of access. This is a common security precaution at many places of employment. You will need to contact your network administrator if you are experiencing problems while you are at work.
Is the information I give you on this site secure?
Yes, we collect and store your data securely. You should see a small padlock or key along the bottom of your screen on the Checkout & Application page which shows that the page is secure.
All personal information is stored using 128 bit encryption. We utilise the industry-standard Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt all the personal information including credit or debit card numbers, names and addresses.
