How does the pricing work?

Note: All prices listed are Ex VAT.


This is the rate for the first 24 hours.


Additional 24 hour periods after the first day or week.

WEEKEND (3 days for the price of 2 days Weekend Hire Offer)

Reduced weekend rate - Pick up Midday Friday, return by Midday Monday - and the price will be less than we normally charge for 2 days!*


The Maximum rate for each 7 day period.

*Other charging structures may apply to HSS OneCall products. '3 for 2 Weekend Hire offer' does not apply to HSS OneCall products.

What is POA?

POA is 'price of application', and applies to tools and equipment secured from a third party, whose prices can change regularly. Call us for an up to date price.

When should I make my reservation?

Please book as early as possible, especially for the busy summer and Bank Holiday periods. You may reserve by telephone or by using the online 'reservation' facility on this site.

Is there a charge for delivery/collection?


Transport costs will be confirmed when our Hire Consultants call you back to confirm your reservation.

Off-Hire & Collection?

Finished with the kit you've hired from HSS? Just call 1800 22 33 66 and quote your contract number - we'll cease the hire and give you a confirmation reference number.

Equipment will be collected at the earliest opportunity convenient for you, usually the next working day - another time saving idea from HSS Hire!

Do I need identification?

We will ask for 2 forms of identification at the time of hire. A bank or credit card together with a driving licence showing your current address are ideal. If in doubt please check with your local branch.

How and when do I pay?

Credit Card

All major credit cards are accepted. In most cases this means that your hire is completed before your card statement is due. For long-term hires, charges are made at 2-week intervals.

Customers who prefer to pay in advance will be asked for a deposit of around twice the weekly hire rate. On return of the equipment we deduct the hire charge and refund your balance.

HSS 30 Day Account

If you wish to hire on a regular basis with up to 30 days credit, please call into your local branch.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Deposits are required for all equipment hire. We will ask for a 2 week Hire charge as a deposit which will be refunded upon return of equipment.

What is my responsibility for equipment return?

Equipment remains on hire (and chargeable) until returned to any HSS branch. If you require a collection, please telephone and ensure you obtain an 'off-Hire' number. Security of equipment remains your responsibility until returned or collected by us.

What happens if something is broken, damaged or missing?

We do charge for broken or damaged equipment. Be sure equipment is secured when not in use and protected from vandalism or loss. You can avoid the risk of unforeseen charges by taking one of our Damage Waiver options.

Our highest level of protection, at 15% of the hire rate, protects you against the cost of theft and repairing damage of HSS equipment, up to the value of £5,000.
Our standard level of protection, at 10% of the hire rate, protects you against the cost of repairing accidental damage of HSS equipment.

Why am I unable to access your site from work?

You may be attempting to access the Internet from within a firewall. Your employer may restrict your access to the Internet, and only allow specific types of access. This is a common security precaution at many places of employment. You will need to contact your network administrator if you are experiencing problems while you are at work.

Is the information I give you on this site secure?

Yes, we collect and store your data securely. You should see a small padlock or key along the bottom of your screen on the Checkout & Application page which shows that the page is secure.

All personal information is stored using 128 bit encryption. We utilise the industry-standard Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt all the personal information including credit or debit card numbers, names and addresses.

Do I need any special software to use the site?

No, you should be able to view everything on our site without any problems.

What is HSS OneCall?

At HSS, we have a wide range of tools and specialist equipment suitable for almost every task but if you want something exceptionally large or particularly unusual, there will be some things we just don’t stock. If we can’t supply a piece of kit directly, we will work with our extensive network of best-of-breed suppliers to source it for you.
Need a Compact Excavator? A Telescopic Boom? Or a JCB digger? No problem, we can get it.

A cleaning charge will be levied if equipment is returned dirty

What are your branch opening hours?

Our standard opening hours are:
Mon to Fri: 07.30 - 17.30
Saturday: 08.00 - 13.00

What's the difference between 110v tools and 240v tools?

240v are traditionally used in domestic circumstances, using mains electricity. 110v tools are usually used on building sites. 110v tools can be run from the mains, but will require a transformer to do so. Both are safe when used properly.
